Present Simple

Structure: Verb + -s/-es in third person

Example:

  • You speak English (affirmative)
  • You do not speak English (negative)
  • Do you speak English? (Interrogative)

Use 1: Repeated actions: an action is repeated or usual (habit, hobby, daily event or something that often happens).

Example: The train leaves every morning at 8 AM.

 

Use 2: Facts or Generalizations: when the speaker believes that something was true before, is true now, and will be true in the future. It is also used to make generalizations.
